The History of Our Water Treatment Company

Over 50 years ago, Eugene Smelik, Sr. set out on a mission to find pure water. He was motivated by years of sub-standard water quality, poorly performing systems and a desire to solve his water problems once and for all.

When he was finally introduced to Kinetico’s uniquely designed, non-electric system in 1971, he made a personal commitment to share his discovery with anyone he could, opening Kinetico Advanced Water Systems, Inc. in 1987.

From small beginnings in Gene’s Morehead City garage, we have grown to 15 locations across five states (CO, GA, NC, SC & VA). We’re proud to be the sole provider of Kinetico water systems for thousands of homes, businesses and families who value high-quality water.

Meet Dr. Gene — Our In-House Scientist

Continuing in the footsteps of his father’s quest for clean water, Dr. Gene Smelik, Jr. serves as Vice President of Kinetico Advanced Water Systems. Guided by his doctoral background in geology and inorganic chemistry, Dr. Gene’s educational pedigree permeates our organization, from staff trainings to the products we carry, ensuring our work is based in sound science and accurate water chemistry.

Dr. Gene brings in-depth expertise in chemistry, mineralogy and earth sciences, including detailed knowledge of mitigating emerging contaminants in water, especially VOCs and radionuclides.

His experience in experiment design and execution aids in the development of both simple and complicated, multi-stage water treatment systems at Kinetico found in homes across the country.
