Early Challenges With the Home’s Water Supply

After building their home and digging a private well for their main water supply, homeowners in Wake Forest, North Carolina were notified that the well was producing a very small amount of water at only 1 gallon per minute (GPM).

They chose to dig a second well to help meet their home’s high water demands, though this well also had low production rates not high enough to accommodate even the most basic water needs.

Shortly after moving in, the homeowners experienced a total loss of water. This is when the customers contacted Kinetico Advanced Water Systems for a solution.

Background

Diagnosis and Installation of a Water Harvesting System

We advised against drilling a third well due to cost and further concerns over water flow. Instead, we provided a well harvesting solution that collects water from both wells at a rate below production, stores this water in four 210 gallon atmospheric storage tanks and delivers water to the home on demand via a repressurization pump.

The question which helped guide the decision for the homeowner was, what does drilling a well cost versus installing a water system? This depends on the depth of the well and the conditions, and in this case was most beneficial to employ well harvesting systems followed by water treatment.

Solution

10x Better Water Flow for High-Demand Water Needs

This well harvesting solution provides up to 25 gallons per minute (GPM) of flow into the home and irrigation, compared to the initial 2.5 to 3 GPM of flow from the two wells. This new system can collect up to 4,000 gallons of water per day from both wells combined.

Results

A Smarter, More Cost-Efficient Path to a Consistent Water Supply

To date, the customers have not run out of water, they have great flow and pressure and are extremely happy with this solution.

Low-yield wells producing less than 1 GPM of water supply is a very common problem in the U.S., with most well drillers offering to drill secondary wells for added supply. A more cost-effective solution with guaranteed results is to collect water over time below the well’s production rate.
